There's nothing quite like a clear summer's night star gazing at the night sky over Lake Tahoe next to a smoldering camp fire, or grilling on the back deck while the local deer mull around at sunset. The Sierras are a splendid break from the hustle and bustle, the busyness of our everyday lives, where we can enjoy the wildness of Tahoe.
Though it's the perfect season to play all day in the fresh air and cozy up around the campfire with loved ones, it's also wildfire season when locals are on high alert. Campers, hikers and backpackers are also out in droves. In order to preserve our favorite summer playground, we need to practice wildfire caution – come prepared with water and/or bucket to douse a fire while camping, set up an adequate fire ring around a campfire, increase our defensible space, and so on.
Think First Tahoe has established a new initiative to encourage residents and visitors alike to practice wildfire prevention, whether that's out camping in Tahoe backcountry and following legal campfire practices, or increasing defensible space around your home. Both are equally important.
Join others on Saturday, June 25 from 12PM-2PM at the Tahoe Biltmore and Lodge Casino for a Defensible Space Block Party! Meet your neighbors and local fire district and learn new ways to create defensible space around your home. Guests will also have access to free greenwaste dumpsters, and enjoy tasty food and drinks!
