Desolation Wilderness is paradise for outdoor recreation in California. Stretching more than 63,000 acres, this stunning display of Mother Nature features towering granite peaks, alpine forests, countless streams, over 100 lake basins, unforgettable panoramas, and thousands of miles of hiking trails, including a 17-mile traverse of the Pacific Crest Trail. The most widely accessible entry points to Desolation Wilderness are in South Lake Tahoe, roughly 45 minutes from Squaw Valley Lodge. Well-marked trailheads can be found at Echo Lake, Fallen Leaf Lake and Eagle Falls. Campfires are strictly prohibited in Desolation Wilderness.
