Fun Summer Tahoe Vacation: July 4th Holiday Week!

You're staying with us for July 4^th(yay – welcome!) or maybe you're lodging around the North Lake Tahoe area and wondering what summer activities to line up while vacationing with your kiddos, parents, grandparents, dog, ten bikes, and Thule car rack. We've got you covered!

The good thing is summer really comes alive during the July 4^thholiday week. That can prove to be really fun, or challenging when it comes to traffic, depending on how you approach your vacation in the North Lake Tahoe area. If you're staying in the valley (Squaw, that is) we recommend you take advantage of the plethora of fun activities lined up that require no roundtrip transportation:

When you're vacationing in the area during the July 4 holiday you don't want to miss the fireworks show! There are several to choose from around North Lake Tahoe, from the show on July 3 at Kings Beach to the July 4 festivities at Tahoe City. The fireworks usually begin at 9:30PM and we advise you park yourself early with a sunscreen, cozy blanket, snacks, and drinks. They are certainly worth the excursion to the lake to watch the night sky ablaze above tranquil Lake Tahoe.

Aside from the beloved annual Truckee July 4^thParade(a taste of local patriotism), there are other fun ways to get out and enjoy the lively holiday, like the Run to the Beach 5K and 10K, and after you've worked up a good sweat swing by Garwoods for a quintessential taste of Tahoe: the famous Wet Woody.

You've watched movies on the big screen in the great outdoors, biked to Tahoe City and floated the Truckee River, run a 5K or 10K at North Lake Tahoe, tried a famously tasty Wet Woody, but be sure to enjoy the simple summer pleasures. Hike up Shirley Canyon. Walk through Squaw Valley along the bike path and admire the peaks that rise up from the valley floor. Pick wildflowers at High Camp. Jump off the public docks that sprinkle the north side of Donner Lake. Kayak Lake Tahoe at dawn with the birds, and soak in the solitude.
